Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn (Illinois) and spent the majority of her childhood living in Chicago. Amy was a part of her family in Chicago when she was in junior high school. Parents, Bob, and Barb taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy is the older sister of Betsy, Lori, and brother Joe. Amy has traveled across Europe both with her family and also independently. They were both teachers and could travel and camp together every summer because of this. They've camped in every US state with the exception of Alaska. Amy went to Rwanda following the 1994 war to aid in relief efforts. In the beginning, Amy showed artistic talent performing in school productions and winning writing contests. High school was where she excelled in athletics, placing in the first ever 3200 meter relay for girls in Illinois track. After sustaining an injury, she returned to school and performed in a variety of roles on the stage, starting with Lanford Wilson’s “Fifth of July” and then directing Wallace Shawn’s “Aunt Dan and Lemon. Amy has graduated from Knox College in Galesburg (Illinois) in the year of cum laude, with an A.A. in East Asian history and a concentration in Theater. She moved to Chicago following graduation and began studying Improv at the Improv Olympic and acting at The Actor's Center. Soon after graduating she was offered on a contract as an actress on the defunct soap show Another World (1964). The category she was nominated for is "Outstanding support actress on the Daytime Drama Series", she has been nominated to Daytime Emmy Awards. Her most memorable roles included those of strong women like Alex Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and Linda Reagan (2003). Carlson currently lives in New York City together with Syd Butler (bassist of Les Savy Fav), as well as being owner of Frenchkiss Records. Amy continues to work on film and writing.
